Simone de Bevoire
Acrylic paint
11” x 14”
This painting was based off of Simone de Beauvoir. She was a famous writer who wrote the novel “the second sex”. The book highlighted the idea that women will always be behind men as a second choice. That is why I placed the female sign behind bars. I then placed the men’s sign on top too create the illusion of them forcing their way in front. I used the traditional colors of pink and blue because those are “traditionally” assigned colors to the genders.
